Top 5 cycling wish list – March 2014

cycling wish list

Fairy-BikeUnfortunately I didn’t get to go out cycling this weekend even though the sunny weather was screaming out for a ride on two wheels, but last week, whilst out in the country lanes around the Vale of Belvoir, I spotted two new lambs; the first sighting of the season for me and a lovely reminder that Spring is here…although it would be great if Mother Nature could also do her best to make a more permanent change to the temperatures (it is suddenly rather nippy again here today in Notts).

With Spring’s arrival imminent, it has got me thinking about new kit and the loads of lovely new cycling things that are out there right now. With that in mind, here is the first of my top 5 cycling wish lists. (It’s a shame my birthday has already passed and Christmas is quite some way off, but hey, I can always dream.) (more…)

Facing the fear

OK, so last time I posted I asked for your help. Something was wrong and I didn’t like it. I’d lost my mojo and facing the fear felt like an enormous task!

Well, I am pleased to report that I seemed to have found it again. Thanks to everyone who left such good advice about getting back out on my bike and riding just for the sake of riding, forgetting everything and simply enjoying it. And it was nice to hear that I’m not the only one to experience these feelings. Sometimes you just need to hear encouraging and comforting words from others who have perhaps been in the same situation or can at least relate to what you are saying. That was good to hear. (more…)

The lost ‘thing’

It’s got to be out there somewhere, surely?!

Sshh, don’t tell anyone, I seem to have lost something.

I’m kind of afraid to mention it but it’s really valuable and I do need it back. I’m worried I may not find it again and that really would be a problem. But it’s got to be out there, somewhere. Please, help me find it! (more…)

Ride like you have no fear

women's cycling, overcoming fear

So far 2014 is shaping up quite well for me in terms of cycling. Riding out three times a week is becoming a habit and my body itches to get out. But for those first few weeks of owning a road bike I remember the fear.

There were a few reasons why ‘the beautiful red one’ didn’t get ridden and sat in the garage for a good while. My other half would pester me to ride out with him and I’d find any excuse I could not to go. Secretly I was scared and the fear was stopping me. (more…)

It’s a Breeze! One down, eleven to go.

Breeze Sky Ride

There’s been more than a breeze blowing locally. The weather here in Nottinghamshire has been pretty ropey this last week. I’m not complaining, technically we’ve had a drought compared to the amount of rain that has fallen in the some other parts of the UK. But we have had really strong winds for the last week and it’s put the kybosh on getting out on ‘the red one’ too much. (more…)

12 challenges for 2014

12 challenges for 2014Yesterday, I posted about how I had stumbled across  road.cc and their ‘Attaining a Higher State of Consciousness’ Challenge 2014′. Since then I have sat and mulled over what I would like to achieve from my cycling in 2014.  I expected it to be a fairly easy contemplation but I’ve found it tougher than expected. I got five straight away but the others took a bit longer and I’m still stumped by number 12. (more…)

New Challenges for 2014

New Challenges 2014It’s now February! Where is the time going? I’m starting to panic a little as London to Paris which I am planning on doing in September is obviously going to come around very quickly. Arghh! I don’t even feel prepared for a 50km ride in two weeks!

But this year was all about new challenges. I turn 36 next week and sometimes, you just have to stop with the ‘oh, maybe next year’ or ‘I couldn’t possibly find the time for that!’ and well, just say ‘yes’. So I said ‘yes’ and it will happen. (more…)

Sport Relief 2014: Robin Hood, Robin Hood and his Merry (Wo)men!

Sport Relief 2014
Penny, Jenny, Hannah and I

I mentioned that this year I have kindly been asked to take part in the #TeamHonk blogger relay for Sport Relief 2014. Whoop! It’s been great fun so far, even the training rides on cold mornings where my fingers and toes have turned numb within 15 minutes of heading out. And that’s even with my thickest woollen gloves and neoprene overshoes – has anyone any tips on how I can conquer this by the way? Please!? It hurts! (more…)
